Disclaimer and Departure

This blog is a collection of posts relating to my recent Pilgrimage to Rome, It.  My intention for the this pilgrimage was to be in and pray in Rome on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, on Saturday 14 September 2013.  Besides being the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, this date is also Yom Kippur.  Additionally, I traveled to Assisi and Orvieto.

These posts are my remembrances and understandings of the things I saw, heard or read at some point.  Their accuracy is limited.

I began my travel on Monday, 9 Sept 2013, arriving at Fiumicino (Da Vinci) Airport on Tuesday, 10 Sept.  I didn't want to travel on Sept 11.  Flights were good and so were the connections, but the flight times were very long.

Language:
As Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis' character in The Fifth Element) says: I only speak two languages, English and bad English.  I attempted as much Italian as I could muster, but when the conversation got beyond very simple Italian words we had a failure to communicate, and fortunately many people spoke English, better English than I spoke Italian.

The highlights of my pilgrimage were the Masses at the four Cathedral Churches of Rome.  The Masses were in Italian or Latin, with the Readings and Homilies mostly in Italian.  I read the Readings for Mass the evening before a particular day.
